All done. It too way too long for eight pretty simple pages, and literally nothing happens in it, but it's finished.

I've done three of these short little strips, all set around the same time, with fundamentally the same people involved, and in my head they're really all primers. They're all set in the British Dark Ages. Following the fall of Rome and the withdrawl of it's infrastructure, troops and market economy, Britain really collapsed. We don't need to look to science fiction to see a post-apocalyptic society. It's happened. Here.

I'm interested in just following normal people as the go about their lives, and was hoping that the setting would at least provide enough visual interest for people to want to look at it. This past strip is simply a small group of people who've been called to the funeral of their king. Nothing more or less.

Each one of these strips has also served to answer questions I'm having about my own art. For this one, I've really tried to push the boat out with my drawing. I've literally spent days on each page, treating the drawings more as paintings than simply pencils. The average length of time taken to draw each of these pages was 3 1/2 days. I must admit, I'm still not sure if it was worth it.

Having said all that, I've enjoyed doing them!

The full 8-page story is thumbnailed below. All comments and crits are gratefully received!

All this talk about fellow deviants had diverted me from your own gorgeous storytelling. :stare: I fixed that with a little snooping!

The palette for "Jaguar" delivers the action really well and I love the cameos of red in some of the pages. You're understated or too modest perhaps, but you deserve a lot more exposure for your own stuff Jonathan.

I also notice your residence and wonder if you're close to me. :eager:

It's nice of you to say that, thanks! I still have too much to learn - I like some of my drawing, but think I'm too static. Like a flick book when I want to be a movie :)

I'm in deepest, darkest Cornwall, where there be monsters!

And more chances of dolphins than up here! No context, by the way, just dolphins in general.
That's what I think anyway. :P

Movement added to what you have could have its appeal, fo sho. But I'm inclined to suggest that your slightly realist approaches merit a different kind of pacing on the pages. The "feel" - though not aesthetically - reminds me of the older, polygonal Max Payne game intros. But movement to the compositions could bring some pacing to contrast the existing approaches you use, which'd undoubtedly make for even more dynamic storytelling.

Love the style though. I hope you'll keep experimenting with ways to present the b/w/r palette 'cause you're ace at it.

PS. I wonder whether monsters to you are dolphins to me.

Incidentally, the red additions in Jaguar will only last through to the end of the next chapter, then a different colour highlight gets used, as different bits need to be bound together...

Thanks, and while that looks interesting, I don't really draw many supers anymore, as I'm a bit pants at it!
