One of the things I'm trying to do is show the difference between the epic legend that grows up and is told in stories and the actual experience of the ordinary people involved.

Pilgrimage is a good example. We have our own preconceptions of what Pilgrims were and the harsh treks that were involved, but from first hand medieval reports it seems to have been more 18-30 holiday than religious trial. A young woman, pregnant outside of marriage was said to be 'on pilgrimage'. I think that language usage, combined with, say, Chaucer's tales give us a pretty clear idea of what went on.

In a lot of the books I've read, where the eminent archaeologist rattles on about strong community leaders bringing all the people together for a great spiritual effort to create the rampart / henge / mound what-have-you, I always think 'bollocks'. It's people. Our motivations are almost always sex and beer.

I'm always looking for feedback on what I do, so please don't hold back - all opinions, good or bad, are worthwhile.

All this talk about fellow deviants had diverted me from your own gorgeous storytelling. :stare: I fixed that with a little snooping!

The palette for "Jaguar" delivers the action really well and I love the cameos of red in some of the pages. You're understated or too modest perhaps, but you deserve a lot more exposure for your own stuff Jonathan.

I also notice your residence and wonder if you're close to me. :eager:

It's nice of you to say that, thanks! I still have too much to learn - I like some of my drawing, but think I'm too static. Like a flick book when I want to be a movie :)

I'm in deepest, darkest Cornwall, where there be monsters!

And more chances of dolphins than up here! No context, by the way, just dolphins in general.
That's what I think anyway. :P

Movement added to what you have could have its appeal, fo sho. But I'm inclined to suggest that your slightly realist approaches merit a different kind of pacing on the pages. The "feel" - though not aesthetically - reminds me of the older, polygonal Max Payne game intros. But movement to the compositions could bring some pacing to contrast the existing approaches you use, which'd undoubtedly make for even more dynamic storytelling.

Love the style though. I hope you'll keep experimenting with ways to present the b/w/r palette 'cause you're ace at it.

PS. I wonder whether monsters to you are dolphins to me.

Incidentally, the red additions in Jaguar will only last through to the end of the next chapter, then a different colour highlight gets used, as different bits need to be bound together...

Thanks, and while that looks interesting, I don't really draw many supers anymore, as I'm a bit pants at it!
